1985 — Birth

I am called Emily.

I am called Emily. I think my parents were considering the name Leia (after the Star Wars princess), but ultimately chose Emily. I don’t think I am named after anyone now, but had they chose Leia, I would have worn it well. 🙂

I was born two months premature by a scheduled c-section on a Monday morning. I was born early on account of my mom and I having different blood types; negative RH factor. Mom tells me I was in the NICU for quite a while, and it was a very emotional time.

My mom looks like she is feeling "OooooKay!" from whatever drugs they gave her. Heh!

That's me. All tiny and stuff.
That’s me. All tiny and stuff. (You should have see the before pictures with a hundred wires coming out of me.)

Mom and dad take me back to their home nestled in a mid-size Minnesota rural town.

I look extremely uncomfortable. But you know, that's how babies are, I guess.

A Christmas photo, perhaps?
A Christmas photo, perhaps? I think I do look like I’m about three months. Remember, I was born premature, so I’d be smaller than a full-term three-month baby. My mom said she glued the bow on my head. Not enough hair! Hehe.
