Creationism

“Tell a lie long enough, loud enough, and big enough, people will believe it.” —Kent Hovind on Evolution

I started to work my way through Kent Hovind’s Creationism Seminar. I had heard them all before when I was Christian, and they were very influential in providing me the “evidence” I needed to believe in Creationism. I’m listening to them again with my new perspective, and as I go, I’ll jot down my thoughts right here. Continue reading “Creationism”

The Temple of Consciousness

The temple that you are building is a vessel for your consciousness, tend to this vessel with care, because it is sacred.

I’ve been thinking about temples and churches a lot lately.

There’s a few verses in Paul’s letters that mention the concept of a person or a community of people being a temple or a church. Christ is referred to as “the head” and the church is is “body”. Elsewhere, Paul tells us that our bodies are temples, and that god lives within it.

So, how on earth would this be relevant to an atheist? Continue reading “The Temple of Consciousness”

Who is Satan?

Should he be considered a hero like Prometheus?

I was reading an article on a Humanist website about the defiance of god, and in this article, satan was compared to Prometheus, a beloved character in Greek mythology. Prometheus was the one who dared to steal fire from the gods, and he was admired for his defiance. This concept of defiance as an act of heroism is extremely unusual, and does not manifest itself in any of the major religions today (that I know of).

Paul’s Epic Rant to the Church of Corinth

“Thank God I didn’t baptize any of you motherfuckers.” –Paul

This is a continuing series of my quest to read the entire bible.

I skip around on which books I’m reading based on relevant conversations I’m having with people online and in-person. Today I’m writing about First Corinthians, because an online acquaintance of mine is going through a crisis with his family. He recently came out (or was possibly outed) as atheist. Cliff Notes on Genesis (From an Atheist)

“Let there be light.”

This is the first post in my attempt to read the entire Bible. It might be my last. I’m not being dramatic, I’m just kind of ADHD when it comes to writing. I’ll probably get bored and do something else for a really long time and then finally do another book. Expectations, people: I’m managing them. List of Books in the Bible

I want to read all the books of the bible, but with my new-found perspective.

When I was a Christian, I always wanted to officially have read the entire Bible. I’ve yet to complete this task, and now I’m an atheist. I still want to read all the books though, but with my new-found perspective. I thought I might go through each book and write some of the cliff notes in my diary.

I may even go so far as to read other holy books such as the Koran or the Tao Te Ching, but for now I’ll start with Christianity since I am more familiar with it. Continue reading “List of Books in the Bible”

Why I Won’t “Come Out” as an Atheist

I’m a listener first, a thinker second, and a speaker last.

I am lucky to live in the northern states of the USA. Up here, we don’t really care that deeply about religion. We have churches, we celebrate Christmas, and we have a lot of believers, but religion is fairly subdued. I can go all week (months, years?) without someone asking me if I’m saved, or inviting me to church. My culture is not dripping with religion, and I do not feel the need to speak out against assumptions that may or may not are being made about me. Thoughts on Religion & Atheism

Research ideas, defense of religion, attacks on atheism, creation and evolution etc.

I’m in a number of Facebook groups that discuss atheism and theism. Usually I am a silent observer as I read through the threads. Sometimes I have a few thoughts that I feel like jotting down, which is what this article is; a hodge podge of ideas. I’ll organize as I go, and if a section gets big enough I’ll break it into its own post.
